Residents plan to revive Allalasandra lake

Last Updated 16 December 2013, 19:09 IST

The residents of Yelahanka New Town, to rid the Allalasandra lake of weeds, have planned to implement water hyacinth eradication measures with the help of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

Members of Yelahanka United Environment Association have chalked out some measures in this regard.

Association’s Secretary B M Narayan said: “About 40 per cent of the lake is covered with weeds. Hence, we approached various experts and analysed successful case studies on weeding options in the last six months. Recently, we gave a presentation on water hyacinth removal solutions to Yelahanka MLA, S R Vishwanath and other officials. The officials have agreed to support us.”

The residents have blamed the sewage water being pumped into the lake from nearby apartments and unauthorised structures for the growth of weeds.
