'Only SP can fight communal forces'

Cong failed to do so, says Akhilesh

All eyes will be on Samajwadi Party to fight communal forces during the Lok Sabha polls as Congress has ‘failed’ to do so in the recent Assembly elections, UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said on Monday.

“All eyes will be on the SP in the next Lok Sabha elections. Only SP and UP can stop communal forces,” he said.

“Along with the development, checking communal forces is SP’s agenda. The government, organisation and the party will work in this direction,” the chief minister said.

Yadav told reporters here considering Congress’s poll debacle in the four states – Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, it could be said the party would not be able to stop the opportunist forces.

Replying to a query on the death of children in relief camps for Muzaffarnagar riot victims, Yadav said his government has made all out relief efforts, including setting up a committee to look into the matter and further action will be taken based on its report.

“The government has made proper arrangement of clothing and bedding during winter season for the people. Arrangements have been made for those, who want to return to their respective homes,” the chief minister said.

He claimed the state government’s functioning has improved and development in every area is visible.

Yadav stated that his government has negotiated with farmers and acquired 200 acre land for the Maitreya project and work has begun on it.

In reply to a query about fielding Atiq Ahmad, who has a criminal background, from Sultanpur seat, Yadav said the party will ensure that discipline is maintained in its cadres.

“The party knows how to ensure discipline within the party cadre. No one is above law. Whatever good or bad done by us is always criticised by you (media),” he said.

When the chief minister was apprised about Ahmad’s roadshow in Sultanpur on Sunday in which his supporters were reportedly seen flaunting firearms, he said this was not right and no one is above the law.
