District in-charge Minister R V Deshpande said on Thursday that before the implementation of development works in the district, issues related to environment will be given primary importance.

He was speaking at a meeting organised at the deputy commissioner’s office in Karwar on Thursday. The meeting was attended by elected representatives, members of the public and various associations and organisations.

The construction of the Hubli-Ankola railway line will ensure not just the development of Uttara Kannada district, but also the development of the entire North Karnataka region.

The proposed rail route will not only be environment-friendly, but also boost social and economic activities. It will prove profitable to the tourism industry and will be financially viable for the mining industry.

The minister requested the members of the Supreme Court-appointed Central Empowered Committee to submit a report that would facilitate the early implementation of the rail project. Assurance from CEC

The CEC, consisting of its chairman P V Jayakrishnan, said that all matters related to the implementation of the proposed railway line would be taken into consideration and a suitable report would be submitted to the Supreme Court.

The meeting received appeals and memorandums from the representatives of the various associations and organisations on the occasion.
