Policemen suspended for inaction

Two policemen, who were mute spectators witnessing two girls being physically assaulted by three boys, have been suspended from duty on Thursday.

According to police, Shriramappa, assistant sub-inspector and Munithimappa, traffic constable from Audogodi Traffic Police station, did not intervene when three boys were assaulting the girls.

The incident took place on December 18 at around 12 pm in Laskar Hosur Road, when a tempo traveller and a car brushed against each other and resulted in an heated argument between the car driver and the tempo driver.

While they were arguing, two youths who were watching the incident, started passing lewd comments against the two girls. The annoyed girls questioned them but the two boys, claiming themselves to be the sons of police officers, started abusing and manhandling them.

Later, the two youths were joined by another youth who also claimed to be the son of a police officer. But the traffic police on the spot were watching the scene without bothering to intervene.

The girls immediately rushed to Adugodi police station and registered a complaint but one of the poliemen in the station tried to pacify them that they were sons of police officers and there was no need to register a complaint. But the girls and their parents went to senior police officials and registered a complaint.

Immediate action was taken and the police have arrested all the three boys who are identified as Chandan Patel (23), his brother Chakravarthi Patel (20), sons of assistant sub-inspector of police Lakkanna Patel and Nayana (19) , son of Dharmendra, head constable with City Armed Reserve.

They are residents of Adugodi police quarters located near the police station.
The two police officials have also been suspended after the case was taken up seriously.
