Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake on Thursday said there was a shortage of 252 personnel in the various urban development authorities. Officials may recruit people on a contract basis.

He was addressing a section of top officials of his department at the Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

The minister said that permission had been sought from the Finance department to fill up 133 posts, of the total vacant seats.

Earlier, officials pointed out that the implementation of works had slowed down due to shortage of staff.

He said the 21 urban development authorities had not planned any programmes since 2011. Such bodies should submit their proposals by January. And those officials who fail to comply with the norm will have to face transfer, he warned.

Sorake also said that officials should implement projects as per the original approved plans. There should be no deviation. In case violations are noticed, then action would be taken, he added.
