Bollywood producer Ramesh Sippy who moved the Supreme Court to stay the release of the 3D version of the 1975 blockbuster “Sholay” on copyright issues withdrew his complaint saying the film had already been released.

He, however, reserved the right to claim damages in a pending civil suit filed against his nephew Sasha, who made the 3D version of the movie.

A bench of Justices A R Dave and Vikramjit Sen allowed Sippy to withdraw the special leave petition as the film has been released in theatres and his request became infructuous.
Sippy approached the apex court challenging the Bombay High Court order refusing to stay the release. Ramesh Sippy, who had directed the original, is in dispute with Sasha over the rights of the film.
