A 23-year-old youth, who worked as a guard-cum-sanitation worker at a government dispensary in Surajmal Vihar in east Delhi, hanged himself to death in the early hours of Sunday. No suicide note has been recovered and police are still investigating the reason behind his step.

Ajit, a co-worker of the deceased Akash, on Sunday afternoon found the body hanging from a fan in one of the dispensary rooms that was used for office works. Police said they received a call from him at around 1 pm.

People who saw him on Saturday claimed they found nothing abnormal in his behaviour when he came to the dispensary at 2 pm on Saturday, said police.

Being employed at the dispensary on contract basis, Akash later left for East End Club in Vivek Vihar where he did a part-time job. He returned to the dispensary at around 11 pm and chose to sleep in the pharmacy, a senior police officer said.

“Another guard Nandu, who was present at the dispensary that night, left for his home in the morning without enquiring about Akash. When Ajit came to replace Nandu, he found the body hanging by a dupatta that was used as the hanging rope,” said the officer.

No physical injury marks were found on the deceased barring the hanging marks around his neck.
His body has been sent for post-mortem and police are awaiting the test results.
Akash was unmarried and lived with his parents at New Seemapuri in east Delhi.
