Last Updated 25 November 2009, 17:21 IST

“The government has distributed more than seven lakh ration cards. But in many places, the real beneficiaries have not received the cards and in many cases those with the cards are not being given any ration,” lamented Legislator Dr G Parameshwar.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for various development works to be undertaken in the Channarayanadurga hobli at the cost of Rs 4 crore.
The government distributed temporary Nemmadi cards to many during the elections, but  has now suddenly withdrawn some of them. “In some cases, those who are eligible for ration cards, have not been issued the cards, inconveniencing them immensely,” he said.

Promoting tourism

“There is a lack of basic amenities in the historical Channarayanadurga. It is unfortunate that this place, which is famous all over the State for its hill and fort, has not seen enough development,” the legislator said and added that he would discuss the issue with the tourism department.

Parameshwar assured that he would ensure the construction of a community hall in the region at the cost of Rs 3 lakh.
He also said that Rs 2.65 crore would be sanctioned for developing Thumbadi and Jonigarahalli roads.

“Providing drinking water supply is high on the Centre’s priority and the C N Durga overhead tank was constructed with this in mind. But the State government has not sanctioned a single rupee for this,” he alleged.

ZP Member P R Sudhakar Lal urged the legislator to ensure that funds are sanctioned by the Tourism department to develop the historical C N Durga hill. TP President Rajamma, Budagavi GP President Yashodamma also spoke.

ZP members Gangadhar, Prasanna Kumar, Taluk Panchayat members M P Shankar, Kamalamma, TP President A D Balaramaiah, leaders Mayura Govindraju, Mailarappa, Tahsildhar Anjaneya Shetty, TP EO  Gopal, BEO Bandiveerappa, CDPO Honneshappa, AEs Vasudevan and Shivalingappa were present.
