Vignesh too in last four

Karnataka’s dominance in the KTPPA-AITA National Series under-16 tennis championship at the KSLTA stadium was all too evident as three from the host State made it to the semifinal stage here on Thursday.

In the boys’ section, top seed C Vasisht  put aside a meek challenge from Haryana’s Yugal Bansal 7-5, 6-2. Eighth seed Vignesh Subramanya scored a 6-2, 6-1 his win over Delhi’s Shramay Dhawan.

Vasisht will take on Andhra Pradesh’s PC Anirudh and  Vignesh will face off with Uttarakhand’s Mayuk Rawat in the last-four stage.

In the girls’ category, S Soha was the only one from Karnataka who advanced to the next stage.

Soha was pushed a little by State-mate Nikita Pinto but the National School Games champion possessed too much of an arsenal for Nikita to make a match out of. Soha, who won 6-2, 5-7, 6-2, will take on R Abinikka in the semis. Shivani Manjanna failed to qualify for the next round after her challenge fell flat on its face against Tamil Nadu’s Rishika Ravi. Shivani lost 4-6, 1-6.

In the last girls’ quarterfinal match, Sarah Dev made shortwork of Humera Shaikh beating her 6-2, 6-0
