TN gang robs men using money

Last Updated 17 January 2014, 19:57 IST

The Patna Police have busted a gang involved in looting people by using currency notes as bait. Two members of the gang, who came to Patna recently from Trichy in Tamil Nadu, had foxed a businessman and decamped with his valuables.

The arrested members have been identified as Muthu Kumaram and Moorthi, both residents of Solonagar under Ramji Nagar Police Station limits in Trichy.

These two accused in the 10-member gang, a day back, told a trader Manish Kumar, who had just parked his sports utility vehicle (SUV) near Gandhi Maidan here, that some currency notes were lying in front of the vehicle. As Manish started picking them up, one of the culprits opened the door of Manish’s SUV and fled with the two bags.

One of the bags contained his laptop. By the time Manish realised that his bag had been taken away, the other person who had informed him about the scattered currency notes had also fled. Manish lodged an FIR at Gandhi Maidan Police Station. The gang would have not have been apprehended had they not started running after seeing a police patrol car near the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) office, a day after the loot incident. The police recovered from them Rs 25,000 in cash, all new currency notes (including Rs 10 denomination) hidden under their cap.

“During interrogation, they confessed their crime and said they never stayed at one place for too long after committing the crime. Nor they were ever arrested,” said Senior SP (SSP) Manu Maharaj.
