SpiceJet goes the discount way too

Last Updated 21 January 2014, 20:21 IST

Close on the heels of other carriers offering discounts this summer, SpiceJet has announced a three-day Super Sale, which offers a 50 per cent discount on domestic flights, provided the booking is made 30 days before travel.

IndiGo has also announced a similar scheme while GoAir has also announced discounts.

“After success with similar promotions last year, airlines seem to have hit on a winning formula to energise the sector. Thus, they are able to drive purchases further, improve forward-loads and yields by incentivising earlier purchases and gain yield predictability by filling up seats earlier,” said MakeMyTrip co-founder and chief executive Rajesh Magow.

The SpiceJet Super Sale, which ends on Thursday midnight, is offering a Bangalore-Delhi flight ticket at Rs 3,444 (Rs 5,936 before discount), Bangalore-Mumbai Rs 1,902 (Rs 3,319 earlier), Mumbai-Delhi Rs 3,054 (Rs 5,022 earlier) and Chennai-Delhi Rs 3,293 (Rs 5,785 earlier).

“SpiceJet will offer a 50 per cent discount on base fare and fuel surcharge on the ticket. Minimum 30 days' advance purchase is required to avail of the Super Sale fares. Super Sale is valid for travel up to April 15,” said SpiceJet in a release.

The other airlines have not come out with any statement. In January last year, SpiceJet had offered 10 lakh seats at a fixed price of Rs 2,013 each.
