A 14.5-ft-tall brass statue of the Kannada matinee idol Rajkumar will come up at the South End Circle, eight years after he departed from the world stage.

The statue of the iconic thespian, who left a deep imprint on the Kannada populace through many classic movies, would be inaugurated on January 30 by his wife Parvathamma Rajkumar, their actor sons, Shivaraj Kumar and Puneeth Rajkumar.

In a press release, the Yediyur corporator N R Ramesh said the BBMP had decided to instal Rajkumar’s statue at South End Circle way back in 2006, when the actor passed away but the idea did not materialise. He said the statue is coming up at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.

Mayor B S Sathyanarayana, Deputy Mayor Indira, District In-charge and Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, Lok Sabha member Ananth Kumar and Padmanabhanagar MLA R Ashoka will attend the function.
