The Rajajinagar police have arrested a 30-year-old man, an attender at a private finance firm, on the charge of raping his wife’s “best friend” at knifepoint five months ago.

The suspect, Srinivas, is said to have had a “crush” on the 23-year-old victim, a housekeeper at a private firm. He tried to make advances to her but she spurned him, according to police.

Five months ago, Srinivas is alleged to have called up the victim, requesting her to help him as his wife had “met with an accident”.

After she obliged, he picked her up on his motorcycle and brought her to his house at Mariyappanapalya where he allegedly raped her at knifepoint when no one else was around. Srinivas, police went on, then threatened her with “dire consequences” if she reported the matter to anyone.

Recently the victim complained of stomach ache and visited a hospital where doctors said she was pregnant. The matter was then brought to her parents’ notice. They approached Srinivas’s wife and asked her to marry off the victim but she refused.
The victim’s parents then pressured her to make a complaint to the police. She did and Srinivas was arrested on the charge of rape, police added.
