The Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is investigating the shootout and the subsequent death of police sub-inspector Mallikarjun Bande in Gulbarga earlier this month, on Wednesday submitted a report on the latest progress in the investigation.
“We submitted the four-page report to the State government on Wednesday,” CID DGP Bipin Gopalakrishna said. The CID officials submitted the report, containing eyewitness accounts and other details, to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) S K Pattanayak.
“It is just six days since the case has been handed over to the CID. A team headed by DIG Soumendu Mukherjee is conducting the probe. We require some more time to complete the report and submit it to the government,” Gopalakrishna added.
He said the CID was awaiting a detailed report from the Forensic Science Laboratory, doctors in Hyderabad who treated Bande, and senior police officers.
The CID chief returned from Gulbarga on Tuesday and explained to Home Minister K J George the progress made in the case.
