Abilympics for disabled

The National Abilympics Association of India, on Thursday, inaugurated the Regional Abilympics for South Zone in Bangalore.

Inaugurating the event Directorate of the Welfare of the Disabled and Senior Citizens, Karnataka, Director, Shivananjaiah said the State government is spending Rs 340 crore under the plan and non-plan schemes for the disability sector. Shivananjaiah said the State government had also reserved three per cent of the jobs in A and B category along with 5 per cent in C and D category and assured that every effort will be made to achieve the target. 

“Abilympics is not an event of sports or games but a competition of vocational skills,” added Dr Uma Tuli, Secretary General, National Abilympics, India and former Chief Commissioner for Disabilities.
The event has been organised for the first time in Bangalore with over 250 participants from the South of India. They will be competing in 30 different events and are vying for the gold, silver and bronze medals.
