Last Updated 21 May 2009, 20:06 IST

The names that are doing the rounds for the post are that of three senior Congress leaders: Sushil Kumar Shinde from Maharashtra, senior MP Kishor Chandra Deo from AP and Girija Vyas from Rajasthan.
Shinde, who has served as Power Minister in the Manmohan Singh’s previous dispensation, is a veteran politician. Being in politics for more than three decade, Shinde has served as Maharashtra Chief Minister and Andhra Pradesh Governor. He was elected to Lok Sabha four times and twice he represented Rajya Sabha.

Parvathipuram MP from AP Deo has been elected to the Lok Sabha for the sixth term. In his three decade long political carrier, Deo has served in many of the Lok Sabha committees. He also headed privilege committee in the 14th Lok Sabha when cash for vote scandal rocked the Lower House during the no confidence motion against the Manmohan Singh government.

Well-versed in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Oriya, Deo once served as a member of the Rajya Sabha also. If the party decides on a woman candidate for the post of LS Speaker it may select Girija Vyas. Chairman of the NCW for a period of three years, she was elected to LS thrice and also served as Union minister of State once.
