Man crushes mechanic to death with boulder, arrested

A second-hand two-wheeler dealer has been arrested for crushing his friend to death with a boulder during a drunken brawl in a suspected act of revenge in Bismillah Nagar on Tuesday night, police said.

The suspect, Imran, overpowered his friend Mubarak, 25, during a fight and later crushed his head with a boulder. They were good friends once, but Imran reportedly bore a grudge against Mubarak after he beat him during a drunken brawl some days ago.

Police said that Imran then decided to teach the deceased “a lesson”. Accordingly, he invited him and some common friends to join him for a drink at a secluded spot in Bismillah Nagar. After a round of drinks, Imran asked his other friends to go get something to eat from a hotel. The moment they left, he picked a quarrel with Mubarak, police added.

Soon, it turned violent, with both the friends exchanging blows.

In the process, Mubarak fell down. Imran then picked a boulder and crushed his head, police added. The victim died instantly of excessive bleeding. The suspect also assaulted Saif-ur-Rahman, a friend of Mubarak’s who had tried to stop the fight, said police who later arrested Imran. Rahman is undergoing treatment. The victim ran a puncture shop in Bellandur.

Body found in drain

The body of an unidentified man, aged about 40, was found floating in a drain in Brindavan Nagar, Chamarajpet on Wednesday.

Passersby first noticed the body and later informed the police. The deceased was said to have been mentally disturbed and seen roaming around the locality for the last week, police said, adding that efforts were on to trace his family.

The post-mortem report is awaited to determine the cause of death.

Courier boy killed

A 22- year-old courier delivery boy was killed when his tempo rear-ended another vehicle near the Kempegowda International Airport in the early hours of Wednesday.
Narasimhamurthy was travelling by a tempo which was carrying consignments to be delivered to the airport for despatch to their destinations. On a service road, the tempo driver rear-ended another tempo. As the two vehicles collided, Narasimhamurthy was injured grievously. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but died on the way.  The driver of the courier vehicle has been booked for rash and negligent driving. The driver of the other vehicle, who fled the spot, is being pursued.

Worker burnt to death

A centring worker was burnt to death as he came in contact with a transformer while fixing centring boards at an under-construction building in Maruthi Nagar near Madiwala on Wednesday.

Rajashekar Reddy, 21, touched the transformer located just two feet from the building being constructed by a man named Ivan Hillary. His body was burnt beyond recognition, said police who have booked the building owner and the engineer for negligence.

Bangla immigrants jailed

The 8th ACMM Court here on Wednesday remanded nine illegal immigrants from Bangladesh in judicial custody till March 5, 2014.

The suspects, who were found picking rags near Cubbon Park, were arrested after an organisation tipped the police off. They are said to have told the police that they first went to Mumbai by train from Howrah, West Bengal. Later, they came to Bangalore in search of jobs but ended up becoming rag pickers.

They stayed in a shed at Mangammanapalya in Madivala. One of the nine suspects, Mohammad Masoom, 26, had come to the City six months ago and later brought the eight others, the police said.
