Plea on Shiradi Ghat road contract rejected

Last Updated 01 March 2014, 17:37 IST

The High Court on Saturday dismissed the petition challenging the award of tender to concrete the Shiradi Ghat stretch connecting Bangalore and Mangalore.

The petitioner, Gokuldas Bhandarkar Constructions Limited, had moved the High Court stating that the contract has been awarded in violation of norms as there were last- minute changes in the tender process.

Challenging the Rs 46- crore tender, the petitioners also contended that the tender to construct the road was awarded to a firm not qualified to participate in technical bid. The petitioner further contended that despite being qualified for tenders as the lowest bidder,  they were left out.

Justice A S Bopanna, who heard the matter, dismissed the petition stating that the last minute change in tender rules is not a violation and is in public interest.
