Harsha Moily's candidature for LS primaries rejected

Last Updated 02 March 2014, 17:42 IST

The nomination of Harsha Moily, the son of Union Minister M Veerappa Moily, to contest in the primaries to elect the Congress candidate for the Dakshina Kannada seat, has been rejected, said returning officer Preniel Nair.

With this, former union minister B Janardhana Poojary and senior Congress leader U K Monu have remained in the fray.

While Harsha was not available for comment, Moily’s close aide Tejomaya said Harsha’s candidature has been rejected as he is not a voter in the constituency (he is a voter in Bangalore).

On the other hand, the returning officer said that AICC has rejected Moily’s candidature as he (Harsha) has not fulfilled the criteria for poll aspirants, especially involvement in social activities.

Harsha, in an e-mail to mediapersons, said that his candidature has not been rejected, but the authorities concerned have sought more details.

Voters’ list

As there is no provision for withdrawal of nominations, the polls to elect a candidate will be held on March 9. Nair said that the voters’ list for the primaries will be published on March 3 (Monday).
