In his reply to Handique’s letter offering full cooperation in case the State decides to seek investigation by CBI into illegal mining, Yeddyurappa is said to have acknowledged the Union minister for “showing concern” on the issue and stated that the State would keep the “Centre informed of its decisions”.
According to sources, the letter is only general in nature but at the same time has assured the Centre that it had taken all steps to curb illegal mining in the State.
The letter mentions that it was the present government which extended the scope of inquiry on illegal mining by the Lokayukta. Former CM Kumaraswamy had ordered a Lokayukta probe into all “illegal mining” from January 1, 2000 to 2006.
