Last Updated 01 December 2009, 18:51 IST

On October 26, District Commissioner of Leh gave the construction work of a track close to the LAC in a disputed area to the villagers of Demchok under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

A Chinese patrol party was on the other side of the border. It objected to the construction following which the Leh administration stopped the work and informed the Jammu and Kashmir government.

The local unit of the Army was initially not informed about the construction and there was no patrol to provide protection.
