An altercation between Rahul Gandhi’s security detail and the media at the All India Congress Committee headquarters here has overshadowed the Congress vice president’s plans to showcase the success of his party’s student wing at the Gujarat University polls.
The Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel, who also guard Gandhi, whisked out journalists from the AICC headquarters ahead of an interaction the Congress vice president was to have with the National Students’ Union of India, which was open to the media.
SPG officials had assured media persons of entry to the Congress headquarters after frisk. But, once outside the premises, journalists were denied entry due to a change in the timing of the interaction.
An argument with the security personnel and presence of a large crowd outside the Congress office led to a minor stampede in which cameras of a couple of photo journalists were damaged.
