It came in way  to expand his election office

Mafia don-turned- politician and Samajwadi Party Lok Sabha nominee from Shravasti constituency Atiq Ahmed allegedly demolished the under-construction wall of the office of the Basic Education Officer in the town as they obstructed to the expansion of his election office.

According to the reports, Atiq’s supporters demolished the wall in his presence on Thursday. The SP workers had complained to Atiq that the local officials had stopped them from expanding their election office saying the construction encroached upon the government land.

Angry over the official action, Atiq reached the spot with a large number of supporters and demolished the wall.

The education department was getting the walls constructed as there was a housing complex there in which employees of the department lived.

Rules violated

Atiq said the boundary wall was being built in violation of the rules and therefore the people demolished it. “I have nothing to do with the demolition,” he claimed.A probe has been ordered into the matter.

“We are investigating the matter,” said a senior district official. Atiq had recently displayed his muscle power on the road after being declared SP nominee.  His supporters had taken out a procession in which they brazenly displayed firearms. There were 200 vehicles in Atiq’s procession and his supporters carried modern weapons.

Atiq, who faces 44 criminal cases, including murder and attempt to murder, was recently inducted into the SP and immediately declared as its Lok Sabha nominee from Sultanpur Parliamentary constituency. He was later replaced and given ticket from Shravasti seat.

Atiq was the first person to have been booked under the Goonda Act in the state. He was expelled from SP in 2008 and joined BSP.

Atiq contested the Lok Sabha elections from Pratapgarh seat in 2009 on the ticket of Apna Dal after being denied a nomination by BSP chief Mayawati.
