49,865 students to take up PU exams in DK, Udupi from today

3,974 persons to take up exams privately, excluding 1,724 repeaters in both dists

As many as 34,185 students will be appearing for the II pre university examinations that will be conducted from Wednesday.

The district has 49 examination centres. The district administration has made all preparations for the smooth conduct of the examinations.

Out of 34,185 students, 16,683 are boys and 17,502 are girls. This includes 30,517 fresh candidates and 1,200 repeaters. As many as 2,644 students have registered privately for the examinations.

Students from 183 PU Colleges including four from Udupi and one from Kodagu borders are appearing for the exam in 49 centres.

The 49 centres include 21 in Mangalore, three in Moodbidri, nine in Puttur, four in Sullia, four in Belthangady and eight in Bantwal taluk.

There are 7,008 students in arts stream, 11,964 students in science and 15,213 in commerce stream.

According to an official of the PU Board in the district, the PU Education Board in coordination with the police have undertaken measures to ensure that examination process is carried out smoothly.

Teams have been formed by the department to monitor the exmination process. A total of 10 flying squads have been constituted to check any kind of malpractices.

In addition, the Deputy Commissioner has clamped prohibitory orders in a 200-metre radius around exam centres. The photocopying centres situated within 200 metre radius have been asked to close down when the exam is in process.

A chief superintendent and assistant chief superintendent will be appointed for each centre to monitor exams. Ten vigilance squads will be formed in the district to avert malpractice, each squad comprising one principal and three lecturers.

The PU Board has formed special squads to avoid leaking of question papers. The department had introduced National Core Curriculum for the science stream last year, on the model of CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) syllabus. This is the first batch of students taking their II PU exams after the introduction of the new syllabus.

In Udupi

As many as 15,680 students have registered for II PUC exams in the district.
PU Board Deputy Director S S Shindha told Deccan Herald that a total of  8,210 girls and 7,470 boys are writing the examinations in 27 centres across the district. A total of six squads will look into malpractices.

The examinations that will be held on March 12 are political science and statistics.
Of the total number of 15,680 students, as many as 13,826 are regular students and 524 repeaters. As many as 1,330 students have registered privately. This includes 2938— arts stream, 8383— commerce stream and 4,359 for science stream.
