Reducing the pain

Last Updated 22 May 2009, 12:25 IST

It is often a great challenge to take plays to children in institutional settings like hospitals. At this Open Forum, Sutradhar look at interventions for chronically-ill children, who spend long periods away from home, under medical care.

Though play therapy is relatively new in India, there are now organisations that are trying to make a difference to affected children and families by exploring ways to help them cope with the stress brought on by the hospital environment, and focusing on their emotional health and well-being.  On May 28, individuals from two such organisations will be sharing their experiences. The speakers are Dr Meera Oke, Director, Centre for Human Growth and Development (CHUGRAD), Pune, and  Nazu Tonse, Docteur Clown India. The venue is Ashirwad, opposite State Bank of India, off St Mark’s Road and the timing is from 4 pm to 6.30 pm. For details, call 22210154, 25215191/ 25288545.
