Harsh Vardhan, Delhi BJP chief and party’s candidate from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, on Sunday called the seven-member party line up for the April 10 poll a ‘balanced team’ and expressed confidence of ending up with a winning tally of 7-0.

“The country needs Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister and by winning all the seven Delhi seats we want to contribute to his ‘Mission 272-plus’,” he said, while introducing five other Delhi nominees.

Expressing confidence of beating his rivals in Chandni Chowk seat, Harsh Vardhan described both the ruling Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as threats to society and the nation.

“The Congress has become synonymous with corruption and scams, the AAP is known for anarchy and lies,” he said.

Harsh Vardhan said the country today needed a government that would not compromise on national interests.

“Modi’s work has been appreciated by the UN and people in the US also say that if there is any Indian politician who cannot be corrupted, it is Modi,” said Harsh Vardhan.
The Delhi BJP chief said the Lok Sabha elections would be the first in independent India in which the people of the country have decided much in advance on whom to give the mandate of forming the government and that is Modi.

“Often questions are raised that candidates from a particular section of society are not present in party. Since there are only seven seats from Delhi, we have taken prominent people from specific sections of society,” Vardhan said.

He said BJP team compromises people from Vaishya, Punjabi, Brahmin, Gujjar, Jat, Poorvanchal and Dalit sections.

Harsh Vardhan introduced Bhojpuri movie star and North-East Delhi candidate Manoj Tiwari, East Delhi candidate Mahesh Giri, New Delhi candidate and party spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi, South Delhi nominee Ramesh Bhiduri and  North-West Delhi candidate and Dalit leader Udit Raj.

West Delhi BJP candidate Parvesh Verma, son of former Delhi chief minister Sahib Singh, could not make it to the media interaction.

Harsh Vardhan said the decision to field him from Chandni Chowk was that of his organisation and he will ensure that he defeats his rivals with a huge margin.

“I was born in Chandni Chowk, played in the laps of Muslims and lived in the area for 15 years, before shifting to east Delhi,” he said, denying that he was an outsider.
“Let me also clarify that actor Manoj Tiwari is also not an outsider to city. He has been living in south Delhi’s Saket area for the last 20 years,”he said.

Why party legislators

Asked why the party had suddenly decided to field party legislators in the Lok Sabha contest, the Delhi BJP chief, himself a five-time legislator from Krishna Nagar, said: “This is a decision of party seniors and there never was a bar on fielding legislators.”

Raj, who was Kejriwal’s senior in the Income Tax department, said: “Kejriwal had never detected a case of tax evasion while working in the department. He also did not do anything for checking corruption in the department.”
