A 35-year-old man sustained grievous injuries after a gang of five attacked him with lethal weapons in Islampur on Monday evening.
The victim, Anees, a resident of Islampura, runs a mutton shop. He was attacked due to an old rivalry, said the police.
Irfan (34), also a resident of Islampura, runs a mutton shop close to Anees’ house. The duo had quarrelled over a petty issue a month ago and Anees had allegedly attacked Irfan then. Irfan hatched a conspiracy to settle scores with Anees, said the police.
Anees was alone in his shop when a gang led by Irfan approached him around 5.30 pm. The gang members picked a quarrel with him, attacked him with lethal weapons and fled. A heavily bleeding Anees was immediately rushed to Bowring Hospital. All five have been taken into custody.
