'Don't have time for reality shows'

Bollywood film The Dirty Picture starring Vidya Balan grabbed attention for a lot of reasons. It won numerous awards and even hel­ped Vidya win the prestigious National award. But one more person who became a household name following this film is singer Kamal Khan. Lending his voice to Ishq Sufiyana composed by musical duo Vishal-Shekhar, the singer has become an instant hit.

Kamal who hails from Punjab, started music lessons at a very early age and took part in numerous competitions and shows. His big break came when he took part in the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar. Talking to Metrolife during his recent visit to Delhi where he performed at Zerzura, Kamal spoke about his life- changing experience. “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa helped me change my life, my lifestyle, my eating habits, everything. Us show se kaafi accha hua hai mera.”

Talking about his mentor duo Vishal and Shekhar, he said, “They gave me the big­g­est break of my life and I am really grateful to them for that. It is also an honour for me to work with them. All thanks to the Almighty.”

Kamal is happy that his father, who had been initially against his decision to go to Mumbai  and start a career, has finally changed his mind. “Now my family is really happy for me and they support me totally. But, my mother gets a bit tense during my late night outings (he laughs).”

Sharing his views on the increasing number of singers and stiff competition in Bollywood, Kamal, says, “Competition is there in every field. Aapko bus apni jagah banani padti hai. Mehnat karte rahiye, baaki sab araam se ho jata hai.”

Kamal, who beca­me famous because of a reality show, is not keen on participating in any such show in the future. “I don’t have time for reality shows now, but yes, I can judge one.” And what about Bigg Boss? Taking a U-turn, he says, “Yes, definitely Bigg Boss. It is a nice show aur wahan jaake bhi mai sabko gaana sikhake he aaunga.”
