Two foreigners molested

Mongolian student, American lawyer file complaints

Two foreigners, inlcuding a US national, have alleged molestation in the Capital, police said on Thursday.

A 24-year-old woman from Mongolia alleged that she was molested by a customs officer at a post office in central Delhi on Thursday.

The victim is a student of Delhi University. Police said the incident took place when the woman went to Post Office - Foreign on Bahadurshah Zafar Marg. She had gone to check the status of a parcel which she had sent to Mongolia a few days ago.

“It is alleged that a customs officer at the post office held her hand and molested her around 5.30 pm,” a police officer said. After the incident, the woman approached IP Estate police station.

Her statement was recorded, but the accused was not arrested till late Thursday evening. Investigating officers said they are verifying the claim and will also check the CCTV footage before filing a case. The accused is likely to face charges of sexual assault under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code.

US woman assaulted

A 45-year-old American woman alleged that a taxi driver tried to drag her inside the vehicle in south Delhi’s Defence Colony. The accused has been arrested.

The victim is an advocate and has been staying in a rented house at Defence Colony.  Police said she was acquainted with the accused, identified as 45-year-old Vikram Basoya.

He lives with family in south Delhi’s Kotla Mubarakpur. In her complaint to police, she alleged that Vikram tried to molest her in his taxi and threatened to kill her if she resisted.

On the basis of her complaint, a case of sexual assault and criminal intimidation under Indian Penal Code has been filed with Defence Colony police station. Vikram was arrested and sent to judicial custody.
