'Contest between Cong, BJP in State'

Last Updated 23 March 2014, 17:27 IST

CM ridicules JD(S) leaders for shedding tears at public fora to earn sympathy

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, there is a direct contest only between the Congress and the BJP in the State and it would be a surprise if the JD(S) wins even one seat.

He was speaking at a party workers meeting under Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency, at H D Kote, in Mysore district.

“As there is no neck to neck contest between the Congress and the JD(S) in any of the constituency in the State, there is no ground for JD(S) in any of the constituencies. It would be a laudable achievement if the JD(S) secures even one seat,” he said.

He criticised JD(S) leaders H D Deve Gowda and H D Kumaraswamy for being opportunistic. Deve Gowda, in order to ensure that his son becomes the Chief Minister, ousted several prominent leaders of the JD(S) in 2004. The party wants to secure power from the back door, he said.

Today, in order to secure seats in the elections, they have started shedding tears at public fora to generate sympathy. The voters should not render support to politicians who shed tears and seek votes, he said.

Modi wave

Aiming his criticism at BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, he said, ‘Modi Wave’ is a mere creation of the media and did not reflect the real sentiments of the people. “In Karnataka, there is no Modi wave. Modi is being glorified by the media alone,” he said. He criticised the expenditure made by Narendra Modi for publicity during the past one year and said that such a trend were unhealthy for democracy.

A man, who supported the massacre of people during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat should not be allowed to become the Prime Minister of a country, he said.Today, the BJP is sidelining its senior leaders, which will affect its prospects in LS elections, he added.

He called upon the gathering to vote for a candidate, depending on his personal credentials. Revenue Minister V Sreenivas Prasad, PWD Minister Dr H C Mahadevappa, Cooperation Minister H S Mahadev Prasad, Chamarajanagar candidate R Dhruvanarayan and others were present.
