Playing down complaints about being absent from the constituency, Congress MP from South Delhi constituency Ramesh Kumar says he was in his area for five years.

.
Kumar, brother of veteran Congress leader Sajjan Kumar who is accused of 1984 anti-Sikh riots, says his privilege flight tickets and train tickets have lapsed as he did not get time to travel out of the city or the country as he was busy with the development work in his constituency.

“I have been in constant touch of the people of my constituency. The reports about me disappearing from the constituency are completely wrong. I am always available for the people,” he said.

Asked about a neck-to-neck fight in Delhi with AAP and BJP bolstering up their attacks on Congress, Kumar said, “There is no resistance to Congress. People of Delhi have witnessed our work and we are going to win this time.”

Kumar says he is brandishing Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi and his clean and honest background to seek vote.

“I am requesting people to re-elect me because I am honest. We have done extraordinary work in the South Delhi parliamentary constituency. From regularising a number of unauthorised colonies to building schools, toilets and other basic amenities in the locality – all have been done by the Congress party,” he said.

In the last Assembly elections, the Congress party had lost all of the 10 Assembly constituencies in the South Delhi Lok Sabha seat. Most of the seats were lost to AAP. Many strong leaders like former Delhi minister Kiran Walia, former Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri and others lost their seats in South Delhi.

Asked why the Congress crashed in his area and how can he still expects to win with such bad results, he said, “Everyone know what AAP did in the Assembly elections. The party went door-to-door with a false promise of waiving of electricity bill and slashing water tariff.

Moreover, it had happened in the entire Delhi and not only in the South Delhi constituency. They had damaged the Congress party with a mountain of lies. The lies of AAP have been exposed before Delhiites and they will not vote for any AAP candidate and neither for any BJP candidate.”

On BJP’s claim of ‘Modi wave’ he said, “There is no Modi wave. It is only created by the party. People will not fall for the BJP’s propaganda to hide its communal image.”
