Poojary plunges into poll fray

Senior Congress leader and four-time Member of Parliament B Janardhana Poojary filed his nomination papers for the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency on Wednesday.

Though the District Congress Committee as well as Poojary had declared of maintaining the nomination process a low-key affair, a large number of Poojary’s supporters had assembled at the deputy commissioner’s office. He was accompanied by Forest Minister Ramanath Rai, Health Minister U T Khader and two local legislators.

According to the affidavit submitted by Poojary, he and his wife own a total asset of Rs 52 lakh, which includes deposits, jewellery, a commercial complex and non-agriculture land.

Congress candidate for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha constituency Jayaprakash Hegde filed his nomination in Udupi.He said that he was confident of the victory as voters would support him for the development works taken up during his tenure. Hegde  was accompanied by Union Transport Minister Oscar Fernandes and former minister Motamma.

He has declared to possess assets totalling to Rs nine crore, including that of his wife.

AAP fields surgeon

The Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Dr Hanumanthappa, a renowed cardio-thoracic surgeon for Mandya LS constituency.

According to a press release issued by the party, Hanumanthappa has been in medical profession for 42 years and has served in various hospitals in different capacities.

The AAP on Wednesday released the list of their star campaigners for its national and state unit. The list includes  Arvind Kejriwal, Yogendra Yadav, Medha Patkar, Prashant Bhushan and Shazia Ilmi, Ashutosh, Mayank Gandhi and Anjali Damania.
