Election observer tells officials to ensure free , fair polls

Election Observer Sanjay Kaushal said, steps have been taken to conduct a free and fair elections in the district.

Addressing representatives of various political parties, in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and preparations for it, he said, if any of the parties learn that there is some trouble at any region, they should bring it to his notice immediately.

The political parties should strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Election Commission. Copies of the voters’ slip would be distributed to the people at their doorsteps. So, no party representative is permitted to distribute the slip, he stated.

When his attention was drawn towards a friction in Hassan between election officials and media persons regarding a nominee A Manju’s press meet, he said, there is no need for obtaining permission to hold press meets at the Press Club. 

But, it is mandatory to get prior approval from the district election office, if the press meet is held anywhere else, he said.

Returning Officer of the district A M Kunjappa said, the candidates should seek permission to use vehicles like even motorbikes for election campaigning.

The candidates should submit the photograph and name of the agents well in advance. Use of mobile phones inside counting centres is banned and agents should strictly follow the directions, he said.

Superintendent of Police P Rajendra Prasad, Additional Deputy Commissioner D Bharathi, Excise Deputy Commissioner Madesh and party leaders were present.
