Myneni gets the better of Bopanna

Saketh Myneni got the better off Rohan Bopanna before R Ramkumar eased past Vasudev Reddy to send GAIL through the final of the men’s team event in the PSPB inter-unit tennis championships that began here on Tuesday. 

IOCL, led by Rohan Bopanna, were expected to pose a tough challenge to GAIL but he lost the opening match against Saketh 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

After both the players held serve through out the first set, Saketh won the crunch points in the tie-breaker to go a set up before taking second 6-4 to win the match. 
 
In the second match, the TN teenager Ramkumar Ramanathan beat Vasudev Reddy 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the tie in GAIL’s favour. 
 
In the other semifinals, ONGC beat OIL by a similar scoreline. 
 
After Vishnuvardhan got past the challenge of Anshuman Dutta 6-1, 6-2, VM Ranjeet thumped CS Mohanty 6-1, 6-1.  In the veteran’s team event, ONGC scored a 2-0 win over EIL, while OIL defeated HPCL 2-0. 
 
Results: Men’s team event (Semifinals): GAIL bt IOCL 2-0 (Saketh Myneni bt Rohan Bopanna 7-6 (7-4), 6-4); R Ramkumar bt Vasudev Reddy 6-2,6-1); ONGC bt OIL 2-0 (Vishnuvardhan bt Anshuman Dutta 6-1,6-2; VM Ranjeet bt CS Mohanty 6-1,6-1)
Veteran team event (quarterfinals): ONGC bt EIL 2-0; OIL bt HPCL 2-0; BPCL bt GAIL 2-1, IOCL received a bye.
