'Five principles to eradicate untouchability'

Retired Sociology professor H M Vasanthamma said, Ambedkar propounded five principles for eradication of untouchability. She was delivering her inaugural address during celebration of Ambedkar Jayanti at Karnataka State Dr Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, in Mysore, on Monday.

She said, Ambedkar scientifically studied the problems caused by untouchability and advocated self-development, self-prosperity, self-sustenance, self-respect and self-confidence to eradicate the social evil.

“All the hardships Ambedkar faced in his life made him strong and he emerged a winner. He practised what he preached. If the five principles are followed, one can lead a successful and peaceful life. It is also good for the nation,” she said.

Registrars Y S Siddegowda and M S Shekar, and Financial Officer D O Krishnaswamy were present.
