Rahul must be disqualified, say lawyers

Last Updated 19 April 2014, 19:53 IST

A group of lawyers on Saturday has sought the disqualification of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi from contesting Lok Sabha elections for committing “corrupt practice” by seeking the legal assistance of K C Kaushik, serving Additional Solicitor General, at the time of filing his nomination papers in Amethi on April 11.

They sent a representation to the Election Commission seeking rejection of his nomination papers for “committing corrupt practice as provided under Section 123 (7) of the Representation of People Act, 1951.”

“Kaushik, a serving ASG at Allahabad High Court, has not only assisted Gandhi in submitting his nomination on April 11/12, 2014 for Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, but Kaushik also accompanied him in his official car throughout the procession organised at the instance of Gandhi and identified him before the returning officer,” they said.
