Malpe-Molakaluru and Kollur-Dharmasthala State Highway passes through Hebri. Hebri town and the Shimoga-Hebri-Udupi road usually witnesses heavy traffic. The cases in Hebri police station too are increasing rapidly.
The proposal to consider Hebri as a separate taluk is before the government. Hebri police station has a large jurisdiction having vast rural area. The region is mainly a Naxal-infested area.
A team of anti-Naxal force and KSRP has been stationed at Hebri for many years. Mattavu of Kabbinale in Hebri is known for Naxals attacking police with grenades for the first time in the State.
It can be recalled here that Naxals had killed two near Seethanadi in Hebri on May 15 last year. The house of Vikram Gowda, said to be the State leader of the outlaws, is located in Nadpalu near Hebri. Several robbery and murder cases too have been reported from here in the recent past.
Of the six bomb proof vehicles sent to the State, Hebri has got one. The locals feel that the region should get a police circle office here because of all the said reasons.
They are of the view that the newly opened stations at Amasebailu and Ajekaru should be taken into the folds of the circle, while the existing station at Hebri should be upgraded. Hebri Panchayat former president Neere Krishna Shetty has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and to the Home Minister in this regard.
