Congress district unit president B Shivaramu exuded confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the recently held Lok Sabha polls in the district. The party workers had joined hands to strengthen the party from the grassroots level for the victory of their candidate, he said.

Addressing a press meet, in Hassan, on Monday, Shivaramu, said the party workers have worked hard in all Assembly constituencies, so, the results would be similar to that of 1999, when the party won the seat. Reacting to allegations levelled against him after the polls, he brushed them aside, saying that he had been managing the party with discipline. It was also noticed by party leaders, who appreciated my efforts, he said.

He had entered politics by joining the Congress party and had been working for it till date, Shivaramu said. He took the opportunity to slam a section of the media, who have been writing against him. There is no need to answer them, he added.

“Proxy voting is impossible in the elections, but the impact of money, liquor and caste continue to influence the voters. There is still scope for reformation of the election process,” he opined. Speaking about Arsikere Assembly constituency, Shivaramu said, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had explained about various irrigation projects and other assurances at a public meeting. The government will fulfil its assurances, whatever be the verdict of the people, he clarified.
