Five persons, including a woman, who were part of a racket for drug trafficking, were arrested in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar area. About 17 kg of heroin worth Rs 65 crore have been recovered from them, Delhi Police’s Special Cell said on Sunday.

The accused persons manufactured and distributed drugs all by themselves and allegedly kept a house for only this purpose.

Ram Avtar, Girdhari Lal, Pankaj, Indal Kumar Singh and Sangita were arrested near a Mother Dairy booth in the Tilak Nagar market, said Sanjeev Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) in a press note.

On April 23, police received information that a woman drug peddler would come to receive a consignment of narcotics in west Delhi. “According to the information, Ram Avtar and his brother Girdhari Lal would meet Sangita near the Mother Dairy booth in the Tilak Nagar market. Sangita handed over a bag to them having some quantity of heroin. A trap was laid and they were arrested,” said Yadav.

During the investigation, Ram Avtar revealed that he had many houses in Delhi. “One of these, located in Vishnu Garden, was identified and raided leading to the recovery of 10 kilos of heroin and 15 kilos of Phenobarbital,” said the officer.

Police said that the accused persons also confessed that they were a part of an interstate narcotics syndicate led by Ram Avtar. “Ram Avtar disclosed that his son Pankaj used to supply heroin to him from Rudrapur in Uttarakhand, which he would then process with other chemical substances such as Alprazolam, Phenobarbital and Acetic anhydride before handing them over to Sangita, Indal Kumar and others,” the officer added.

Another peddler held

In another incident, a drug peddler was arrested with 320 grams of heroin worth Rs 80 lakh in Geeta Colony.

Rajkumar, 27, was arrested by crime branch near Shamshan Ghat in the colony. “The seized contraband is of fine quality and is valued at around Rs 80 lakh in the market,” said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime).
