2 grace marks for errors in SSLC papers

Last Updated 28 April 2014, 19:19 IST

Owing to errors in the SSLC Science question paper (Kannada medium), the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB) has decided to give two grace marks to ensure that students do not suffer as a result of this.

An error in regard to translation of a question from English into Kannada on the reaction of PQRS metals with water was found in the Physics and Chemistry paper (Paper 1). In the Biology paper, a question on reproduction was found to be out of the syllabus. Two grace marks have been respectively given due to these errors.

In addition to this, two more errors in the Biology paper were also found.

The first of this relates to an error in one option in the ‘match the following’ section. It was found that there was no correct answer to the particular option and only the nearest correct answer was available. The KSEEB has therefore ruled that the nearest answer would be taken as the right answer.

Another error was caused due to a mistranslation in a question relating to genetic mutations leading to confusion. Students gave two different interpretations to the answer and both of them will be considered correct, according to the release.

Speaking with Deccan Herald, Govinde Gowda B, Deputy Director, KSEEB, said: “The decision was taken on April 11 after consultations with various teachers before the valuations began,” he said.
