Ready to conquer the catwalk

The Fashion Forum of BMS College of Engineering is slowly emerging as one of the major clubs in the institute. The team members are making great efforts to bring innovative changes in the forum. Natasha from Chemical Engineering and Deepti from Industrial Engineering and Management are the student co-ordinators, who lead the team of 20 members.

Dr B R Ravishankar, Head of the department of Industrial Engineering and Management, is the faculty co-ordinator. “All the team members, together, decide the theme for the show and plan in advance to execute it in an innovative way,” says Natasha, one of the co-ordinators. The audition process for the selection of the college team begins at the time of the orientation programme itself. The filtering process will continue to three-four rounds to select the best among the freshers.

The activities of the team includes modelling, conducting fashion shows, designing the costumes, etc. “While preparing for a show, we do lot of homework. We always make use of many colours as it grabs the attention of the audience instantly. We choose the appropriate music, which suits the fashion pageant,” reveals Deepti.

She adds, “Once we had experimented with a dance in the show and it really worked. Our intention was to break the monotony and we succeeded too. Recently, we participated in a fest conducted by Bangalore Medical College and Research Centre and presented the fashion pageant on the elements of Earth. The performance received a huge appreciation.”

The fashion team participated in an MTV fashion show held two years back and also won a competition held at NIT Suratkal. There is active participation from the team at the VTU fests every year. “Other than the club activities, the team members have maintained great friendship and are like family members. We go for team outings and conduct plenty of fun activities,” concludes Deepti.
