'Selfless service should be motto in social field'

The rendering of selfless service should be the motto in any social or charity field, said District Training Institute Principal Prabhakar Sharma.

Speaking after inaugurating the World Red Cross Day celebrations at Athena hospital here on Thursday, organised by Indian Red Cross Society, Dakshina Kannada unit, he stressed the importance of social service.

“Do not do any social service out of prestige nor bother over who is going to benefit from your deed.”

Stressing the need to enrol more number of people as Red Cross members to take up more good work in society, he lauded the efforts of Red Cross unit in extending helping hand in all healthcare activities though public have a wrong notion that blood donation is the sole purpose of Red Cross Society, he said.

‘Make it mass movement’

Presiding over the celebrations, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said the activities of Red Cross need to be a mass movement rather than confining to any captive audience.

The message of blood donation should reach every nook and corner of the district which would help in setting up of more blood banks thereby heralding a blood surplus society, he added. Medical Superintendent of Lady Goshen hospital Dr Shakunthala M Mugadur said the Red Cross Society is doing a life saving job at her hospital premises.

Indian Red Cross Society DK unit Chairman Prabhakar Shreeyan, Assistant Drugs Controller Nagaraja K V, Athena Nursing College Principal Sr Jacintha D'Souza, MCC Deputy Mayor Kavitha Vasu were present. 

Earlier, as a part of the celebrations, DC A B Ibrahim planted saplings at Wenlock hospital premises while Deputy Mayor Kavitha Vasu inaugurated a day-long blood donation camp at Red Cross Blood Bank.
