The BJP staged a protest in the City on Tuesday, opposing the power tariff hike and load-shedding.

The party warned the State government that it would intensify the protest, if the hike was not rolled back.

The BJP workers, led by Malleswaram MLA C N Ashwathnarayan, staged a protest shouting slogans in front of the KPTCL premises on KG Road. They said that the Congress government had not ensured adequate power supply.

“The tariff for 100 units has gone up from Rs 370 to Rs 400,” the MLA said.

They said the State government was burdening the common man by increasing the prices of all basic necessities, soon after the voting for the Lok Sabha elections.

“The BMTC and KSRTC bus fares were hiked. After that it was a steep hike in the toll on National Highway-7. If this was not enough, now it is electricity. Soon they will increase the water tariff,” said Jayanagar MLA B N Vijay Kumar, who was among the protesters.

He said that farmers were left in the lurch as they did not get proper prices for their produce.

“The promises that they made before coming to power remain unfulfilled,” he said.
