Last Updated 14 May 2014, 20:11 IST

The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday ordered re-polling at five booths in different parts of West Bengal, where voting took place on May 12 in the fifth and last phase of the general elections.

The re-polling, which will take place on Thursday between 7 am and 6 pm, was ordered following complaints from Opposition parties — Congress, BJP and the Left.

State assistant chief electoral officer, Amitjyoti Bhattacharya, on Wednesday said that reports of the fifth phase election had been sent to the poll panel for scrutiny based on which it instructed re-polling at five polling stations.

“The polling stations include No 82 under Ashoknagar Assembly segment of Barasat Parliamentary constituency, No 145 under Haroa Assembly segment of Basirhat Parliamentary constituency and No 253 under Basirhat South Assembly segment of Basirhat Parliamentary constituency, along with numbers 225 and 226 under Canning East Assembly segment of Joynagar Parliamentary constituency.”
