Driver found murdered

Victims relatives stage protest with body in front of police station

According to police, Ranga (40), a resident of Netaji Nagar was found murdered on Saturday near his residence. He owned a van which ferried passengers to and from the City Railway Station. A verbal duel had ensued between Ranga and his relative who too had entered into same business, a couple of days ago.

On Friday night, Ranga had gone to railway station to drop a passenger, but did not return home. His body was found with multiple stab injuries a few yards away from his house on Saturday morning. As the news of the murder spread, a large number of people gathered at the spot and there was commotion. Police rushed to the spot and sent the body for autopsy.

In the evening, when the autopsy was over, the relatives refused to cremate the body and resorted to a dharna demanding arrest of the assailants. They relented only upon being told that some suspects have been nabbed.

Police sources added that Ranga had tried his luck in politics also. During the general election this year, he filed the nomination papers as an independent candidate but later withdrew his candidature.

Lorry driver killed

A lorry driver was killed on the spot as he rammed his vehicle into another truck parked on the roadside on Mysore road near here in the early hours of Saturday. The accident occurred as he lost control over the vehicle on NICE road bridge at about 4.30 am. The identity of the deceased driver is yet to be ascertained. A case has been registered by the Byatarayanapura police. 

Shop burgled

Thieves struck at a shop and made away with a colour television set and Rs 10,000 cash in Vijayanagar on Friday night. The burglars gained entry into the shop by breaking open the lock. The incident came to light on Saturday morning when the owner Mahboob Pasha opened the shop.  The police have registered a complaint.
