ADGP issue a closed chapter: CM

The controversy surrounding ADGP, P Ravindranath, was a closed chapter for the government, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said.

“It’s a closed chapter for us. We have sought a report from the CID, which will be submitted soon. There is nothing much to talk about it,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here on Friday.

Earlier, in his speech, Siddaramaiah sternly warned police officers against indiscipline which could bring disrepute to the law-enforcement agency.

“People trust the police force and have faith in police personnel. But police officers have lost their own colleagues’ respect. The government will never tolerate such acts. The officers who indulge in such acts and tarnish the police’s image would be punished irrespective of their rank and position,” he said.

In an indirect reference to the incident involving Ravindranath, Siddaramaiah said the onus of ensuring law and order was on the government and the police.

“I am upset about some recent developments in the police force. I don’t want to discuss such things openly. The officers who should punish anti-social elements and protect helpless people are being accused of crimes,” he said.

“The police’s reputation is at stake. Policemen should cultivate discipline, patience and a sense of responsibility.”

The chief minister also said the government was considering opening a medical college and a super-speciality hospital to address the medical requirements of police personnel and their family members.

The government has also initiated the process to fill vacancies in various police wings, he added.

Home Minster K J George said the government was considering increasing holiday wages for police personnel from Rs 100 to Rs 200.

“We are trying to make sure every policeman gets a weekly holiday so that quality time could be spent with family members,” he said.
