President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday expressed the Modi-led government’s resolve to address the problems of judicial system by modernising courts as well as filling up vacancies and doubling the number of courts and judges in the country.

Addressing the joint session of Parliament, he said a multi-pronged approach, including a focus on alternate dispute redressal mechanism, would be adopted to address the issue of high pendency of cases, keeping in the mind that “justice delayed is justice denied”.

“My government will adopt a multi-pronged approach to address the problem of high pendency of cases in our judicial system. It will progressively modernise the courts to improve their operational efficiency, and start reformation of the criminal justice system to make dispensation of justice simpler, quicker and more effective,” he said.
