Hitting back at the Congress’s “marketing” barb, senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday said the NDA won the Lok Sabha elections as it had a “better product” than that of the Opposition.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday had said that the BJP was good at marketing and had succeeded in selling a dream to the voters which was difficult to implement.

“The basic principle of marketing is that your product should be good. If the product is not good, it cannot be marketed. You (Congress) also tried your hand at marketing, but it was our product that appealed to the voters. So, this is not a success of marketing, but the specialty of the product,” Swaraj, the external affairs minister, said, intervening in the discussion on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha.

While Narendra Modi had led the BJP campaign for the Lok Sabha elections, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was the face of the UPA campaign.

Swaraj also listed out 10 reasons for the defeat of the Congress which included price rise, corruption, scams, farmers’ issues, slowdown in trade, atrocities against women, undermining of institutions and insults heaped on soldiers.
