In all, five persons who are believed to have been involved in one way or another with the duo were taken into custody and five vehicles used by the suspects also seized. Nazir and Shafaz were interrogated by the cops at the Ernakulam police club.  The Scorpio allegedly used for transporting explosives to Bangalore is also among the vehicles seized.

Meanwhile, the alleged involvement of Nazir in the Tamil Nadu RTC bus burning case in Kochi has turned the spotlight again on People’s Democratic Party chairman Abdul Nasser Madhani. The high court on Monday put off the anticipatory bail case of Madhani’s wife Sufiya who has been named the tenth accused in the 2005 bus burning case to Thursday. Nazir is the first accused in the case involving hijacking and burning of the bus allegedly done in protest against the ill-treatment of Madhani in the Coimbatore Jail.

The police have reportedly got evidence of telephone calls made between Sufiya and Nazir. However, Madhani alleged  in Kollam on Monday that his wife was in no way involved in any terrorist activities. “If the court feels that she should be arrested, she will court arrest. But I suspect that there is a move by certain politicians to deviate attention from the people who are really behind terrorist activities. Neither I nor my wife have any connections with this terrorist organisation called LeT,’’ Madhani said.

Earlier in the day, there was apprehension that Sufiya might be arrested if the court rejected her bail plea.
