Last Updated 14 December 2009, 19:50 IST

Amid confusion in the party rank and file, the GJM leadership said the outfit has been withdrawing the bundh keeping in mind the suffering of common people and a tripartite meeting scheduled for December 21.

According to reports reaching here which cannot be independently confirmed, the BJP, which supports the Gorkhaland movement, could have persuaded the GJM to withdraw the bundh.
Gorkha Janamukti Morcha chief Bimal Gurung only confirmed that the bundh would be withdrawn from 6 pm on Monday with a rider that a fresh agitation could be launched if the demand for a separate hill state is not met.

“We will bring Gorkhaland by 2010,” Gurung was quoted as saying at a gathering in Darjeeling where students and youth converged in large numbers.
